About Littleton - Heart of the White Mountains

Littleton, New Hampshire is a charming riverside town nestled within the White Mountains. Known for its vibrant Main Street, historic covered bridge, and scenic views along the Ammonoosuc River, Littleton blends small-town warmth with outdoor adventure. From local shops and cafés to easy access to hiking, skiing, and fall foliage, it’s a welcoming gateway to North Country living and year-round exploration.

Also known as the The "Be Glad Town"  Littleton was founded in the mid 18th century.  Originally part of the town of Lisbon, what is now Littleton was granted as "Apthorp" to a head of one of the wealthiest mercantile establishments in Boston, Massachusetts. Colonel Little, an associate of the Apthorp family, later inherited the area and the town was named in his honor when it was incorporated in 1784, the same year New Hampshire became a state.
